Faith Question (English)
Can I Still Trust God In Uncertainty?
The Answer from Life and Faith
Dear friend, life can sometimes feel like a road disappearing into the fog. We may be facing changes at work, health concerns, family struggles, financial pressure, or simply the unsettling question of what tomorrow might bring.
When we cannot control the future, it is natural to ask, “Does God really know what I am going through? Can I still trust Him?”
Christian faith does not promise that life will always be predictable or comfortable. It does not guarantee that we will have every answer. But Scripture repeatedly reminds us of this truth: we can trust the God who holds the future, even when we cannot see it.
1. Trusting God does not mean we must have all the answers
Proverbs 3:5–6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” This does not mean that we should stop thinking or making wise decisions. Rather, it reminds us that human understanding is limited.
We often want God to give us a complete map: “Show me exactly what will happen next, and then I will feel safe.” Yet sometimes God gives us not the entire map, but enough light for the next step.
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
In uncertainty, you may not need to know what will happen six months from now. You can begin by asking:
“God, what is the faithful step You are asking me to take today?”
Perhaps that step is to pray, seek wise counsel, have an honest conversation, do the work that is in front of you, or simply tell God, “I do not know what comes next, but I choose to place myself in Your hands.”
2. An uncertain situation does not mean God has left you
The Bible never presents faith as a life in which we never feel afraid.
David experienced fear. Elijah became exhausted. Job wrestled deeply with suffering and difficult questions. Even Jesus’ disciples panicked when they found themselves caught in a storm.
In Mark 4:35–41, the disciples were in a boat with Jesus when a violent storm suddenly arose. One of the most comforting truths in this story is this: the storm did not mean Jesus was absent.
Sometimes we assume that smooth circumstances prove God is with us, while difficult circumstances mean that He has abandoned us.
But Scripture tells us that God’s presence is not determined by whether our circumstances are calm.
Isaiah 41:10 says:
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”
Faith does not necessarily say, “I know everything will work out according to my plan.”
Faith can simply say:
“Though the future remains uncertain, I rest in the assurance that God is with me.”
That distinction can transform the way we walk through uncertainty.
3. Give the tomorrow you cannot control to the God who holds tomorrow
In Matthew 6:34, Jesus teaches, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”
Jesus is not telling us to ignore our responsibilities. He is reminding us not to allow things that have not happened yet to steal the life we have today.
Anxiety often traps us in endless “what if” questions:
What if I fail?
What if my plans do not work out?
What if things get worse?
What if I cannot handle it?
Faith invites us to bring those “what ifs” into the presence of God.
Philippians 4:6–7 encourages us not to be consumed by anxiety, but to bring our requests to God through prayer, petition, and thanksgiving.
You do not have to pretend that you are not afraid. You can bring your fear itself to God.
A simple daily practice can be this:
Give God what you cannot control, and faithfully do what you can do today.
As we practice this again and again, trust becomes more than an abstract theological idea. It gradually becomes a way of living.
Dear friend, if you are walking through an uncertain season right now, remember this: you do not have to see the entire road in order to follow God.
Sometimes faith simply means having enough courage to take the next step.
You may still be afraid. You may still have questions. You may not yet have all the answers. None of these things necessarily mean that your faith has failed. You can come to God with your questions, pray through your tears, and continue walking even when the future remains unclear.
Because the God we trust is not a God who promises that life will always be predictable. He is the God who remains faithful, good, and present with us in the middle of an unpredictable life.
You may not know what tomorrow will bring, but you can place tomorrow in the hands of God.
